Guidelines
* Our wishlist: an eye-catching, attractive, aesthetically-awesome design that captures the spirit of MATCHA; strong (but simple) graphics that will immediately grab someone’s attention, or elicit a double take. Because MATCHA is “Pan-Asian” (though each event may focus on a specific country and/or practice), we prefer that the creative evokes or celebrates Asia, but this is not crucial. The design should not only convey what MATCHA is, but also give a teasing taste of what this upcoming season will offer.
* We don’t want to say it’s mandatory that you’ve been at least to one MATCHA event, but it definitely would help inform and inspire your artistic process. The best way to understand the true essence of MATCHA is if you’ve experienced it.
* Do your homework. Peruse our Flickr account, watch our videos, get intimate with our past programming, and research the MATCHA programming for 2009-2010. Believe us, it’ll help!
* Artwork should contain the words “Asian Art Museum presents MATCHA” (“Asian Art Museum” can be small, “MATCHA” should be big). Please include our logo somewhere and designate blank space for about a paragraph’s worth of copy that we can insert (we always include dates, price, URL, and other info).
* Be aware that your design needs to be flexible (“modular”) for various media and formats. In addition, think of creative ways your design can be altered to distinguish each MATCHA event. There will be eight events from June ’09 through end of 2010! For example, please click here to see previous creative in which each event’s online banner had its own distinct color.
* We will run black and white print ads, so your design should print clearly in black and white as well as in color.
Specs
* Please use 12.75 x 17.25” poster dimensions for your design. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that this will be considered the design “master” and source, from which we (the museum) will exercise the liberty to extrapolate, resize, and reconfigure for various media and layouts, while striving to preserve the original look and feel.
* We prefer artwork in Adobe Illustrator
* Should you win, please be prepared to provide LARGE HI-RES artwork and native files (images, fonts, etc)
Submission
* Email a 1,000 pixel-wide JPEG (no need for hi-res) of your design to post@asianartmuseum.posterous.com
- In the body of your email, include your email address (name[at]domain[dot].com), URL, and a brief description of your design.
- We respect your privacy. If you’d rather not include contact information in the body (since whatever is in your email will publish on the site), then you must CC us when you’re emailing your entry. CC this email address: asianartmuseumsf@gmail.com
- All posts will be published LIVE on asianartmuseum.posterous.com, in the order they arrive
* For more information on how to use Posterous, get acquainted or read their FAQ. It’s simple, straightforward, and fast. All you need is email.
* Deadline for artwork submissions is Friday, March 13, 2009. We will be contacting the winner at the end of March, and announcing the winner in early April.
Agreement
* Again, the Asian Art Museum reserves the right to reformat the final design for use in various media.
* The Asian Art Museum reserves the right to reject all submissions for the final design.
* You must be 18 years or older to participate.
